The Battery Park City Broadsheet

The Battery Park City Broadsheet

Christy Frank had been working for wine and spirits importer Moet Hennessy for about seven years when she decided she wanted to “do [her] own thing.” Armed with industry experience, she opened Frankly Wines at 66 West Broadway, just down the block from her home. Noting that customers
are starting to explore wine from beyond the usual regions of France, Italy and
California, Frankly Wines “skews towards the Southern Hemisphere” in its selection, as well as offering the occasional bottle from places like Greece,
Uruguay, Israel, Hungary and Morocco.  The whole of Frankly Wines’ offerings totals about 200 wines from around the world, from a unique selection of vineyards.  This selective, adventurous collection is an accessible one as well: While there will always be rare and elegant wines with prices to match, Ms. Frank
says that the majority of her selection can be had for $25 or less per bottle, and that she always likes to keep five to ten bottles for sale at the $10 mark.

Frankly Wines delivers for free from Duane Street to Vesey; beyond that, deliveries cost $15, waived for orders of $250 or more. Ms. Frank offers a 10% discount on a mixed case, 15% on a full case, and is very willingto assist in customizing a case of wines. When she recommended a crisp Torrentes—a white grape rarely grown outside of Argentina, known for notes of itrus and hints of spice—quite frankly, this writer sorely regretted conducting the follow-up interview by phone.
